Rabies

I was lying on my bed when Fynneus came in to check on me. Suddenly Rollin came bouncing and shrieking into the the bedroom and jumped on the bed.  Fynn said "Rollin we should try to be quiet cause mommy has a fever." Then Rollin without missing a beat said "what? Rabies? ahhh!"

Fynn's Schedule

I was running errands with the boys and it was almost lunch time. Tucker and Rollin asked if we could have donuts for lunch. I said no. They asked why. I said "because I don't want donuts and I don't want you to have donuts for lunch!" Then I asked "am I really having to explain this to you guys right now?"    Then Fynneus jumped in and said "well let me just check my schedule." He proceeded to thumb through a tiny little notebook I had just gotten him that had absolutely nothing written in it and says "Yep my schedule says we have to have donuts."

It looks like a disaster area

When I was growing up, actually as far back as I can remember my parents would come into my bedroom and say things like "it looks like a disaster area in here" or "it looks like a tornado went through here" or other clever sayings to help me realize how untidy my room was.  I heard the words replay through my head today as I looked around my home. Then it all made sense! I realize now that I must have subconsciously been trying to prepare myself for life with a husband and three sons!

Fathers Day

I was in the kitchen this morning starting breakfast when Fynn came in and said "hey who gets the red plate?"  Tucker told him it was for daddy and I reminded him that it was fathers day. "Oh" he said " can we make him bread and breakfast?" (which translates to Bed and breakfast, which actually means breakfast in bed.) I agreed of course cause I was already working on it. Then he said "oooh can I get his drink?" I agreed again and he began to wander excitedly around the kitchen saying "hmmm what should I get him? what should I get him?" The he paused suddenly, spun around  and pointing a finger at me said "I know! Beer!!"  Then he looked really confused and asked "do you think he would like beer right now?"  I explained that Thadeus had to work today so beer was probably not the best choice. He served him Kombucha tea instead!

a relaxing fishing trip

I was feeling restless and trying to think of something to do with the boys. They shot down all of my ideas and before I knew it they were all cheering "fishing! yeah fishing! lets go fishing" I agreed, reluctantly and tried to quietly convince myself that I could really enjoy this time with them. It's not that I don't enjoy fishing with them, just that at the time i was yearning for something a little more stimulating for myself. So I decided to bring my camera and a book and I even packed a picnic. We were at the lake about two hours, and I did not so much as look at my book, or eat my lunch. I did manage to take a photo of Rollin with the one fish that was caught. The rest of the time I spent tying hooks, fastening sinkers, attaching and un-attaching bobbers, untangling fishing line, and unsticking stuck hooks, helping little boys find places to go # two and fixing fishing reels, and untangling fishing line, lots of untangling fishing line.  Then suddenly they were hot and ready to go home.  I think I may have actually laughed out loud when they said they were hot and tired of fishing and ready to go home.

what time is it?

It is June something and Saturday which is our temporary new Monday.  I am having a harder time keeping my days straight and I very rarely know what the date is.  But lately I have been forgetting meals!  I always remember breakfast. I usually remember lunch. But I have been completely forgetting about cooking dinner for everyone.  I guess because the days are longer and we stay outside longer. Today Thadeus had to work at 2:15. So this afternoon and evening we dug the potatoes and played baseball then went on a bike ride. I looked at my phone and it was almost 8 pm. So we headed back to the house and I was scrambling to get some dinner together. The boys were out back playing ball again. I reheated the fish I had fried for lunch. Cooked some of the potatoes from today's harvest and roasted asparagus. Mean while I was cycling the boys through the shower routine. Sometimes I wish we cad a car wash in the bathroom I could run them through. Anyway by the time they were all clean and dinner was on the table it was 9:03.  I wonder if this lack of schedule we have always had will result in them being extremely flexible guys. Or maybe they will decide they love schedules and be the opposite of how they grew up.  I don't know but for now I am just going to try to remember to feed them!
